The 2017-2018 state project this year is twofold; both monetary and service based. For the first project, we will be raising
money for Ohio Honor Flight. Honor Flight is an organization that takes veterans to see their war memorials in Washington
D.C., and it costs approximately $250 to send a veteran through Ohio Honor Flight. There are five Honor Flight branches in
the state, Cincinnati, Dayton, Cleveland, Columbus and Toledo, and I hope to raise enough funds to send at least two veterans
from each branch of Honor Flight.
There is also a service component for the Honor Flight project, and I am encouraging members of O.S.C.A.R. to go to an
airport and welcome home our veterans when they return on an Honor Flight. OSCAR members will also be making cards to give
to the veterans as they have a "mail call" on their flight home from D.C. In order to help raise funds, we are
selling silver stars for $10 and gold stars for $20. I chose the star shaped pins because of the Freedom Wall at the WWII
Memorial in D.C., where there is a wall with 4,000 stars, and each star represents 100 American lives that were lost during
For the second project, O.S.C.A.R. members and seniors will encourage attorneys, law students, and other legal professionals
to pledge to volunteer a total of 100 hours to Wills for Heroes. Wills for Heroes is a local organization that drafts legal
documents, which include a Last Will and Testament, Living Will, Financial Power of Attorney, Healthcare Power of Attorney,
and Donor Registration for veterans, active duty military members, first responders, and police officers at no cost to them.
